At the age of four she began singing, and she got a taste of fame when she begged her mother to bring her to an audition for Sesame Street. She started her career as regular performers in the year 1985 as a 6 year older on Sesame Street, a PBS children's show. She performed in many Broadway productions in New York City, including Fences (with James Earl Jones as well as later Billy Dee Williams) and Orfeo del Campo (off-Broadway). At the age of seven, she was a contestant in Star Search and won twice, receiving a four-star rating when she was on the show another time.
